The Portland Sea Dogs are a professional baseball team based in Portland, Maine. They play in the Eastern League. The team started in 1994. They are the Double-A team for the Boston Red Sox. This means they are a step below the main Red Sox team.
The Sea Dogs were first connected to the Florida Marlins until 2002. In 2003, they became part of the Red Sox family. The team reached the Eastern League championship series in 2005. They lost that year but came back in 2006 to win their first Double-A championship. This was a big win for a Red Sox farm team. You can listen to all their games on a network of radio stations.

Team History
Professional baseball returned to Maine in 1994. Portland was chosen to have a new team in the Eastern League. The Sea Dogs joined with the Florida Marlins in 1993. This partnership lasted for nine seasons. The city worked hard to update Hadlock Field. It was changed from a high school stadium into a professional ballpark.
The Sea Dogs won their very first game on the road. They beat the Reading Phillies 2–1. The winning run came in the 14th inning! Their first home game at Hadlock Field was on April 18, 1994. They lost that game 7–6 to the Albany-Colonie Yankees.
A famous cartoonist named Guy Gilchrist designed the team's logo. His comic strip Mudpie even showed the characters visiting a Sea Dogs game.
The team won its only league title on September 17, 2006. They defeated the Akron Aeros 8–5. This was a rematch of the championship series from the year before.
In 2021, Major League Baseball changed how Minor League Baseball was set up. The Sea Dogs became part of the Double-A Northeast league. In 2022, this league went back to being called the Eastern League.
In 2023, the Burke family, who owned the team for a long time, sold it. The new owners are Diamond Baseball Holdings. In August 2024, the team was featured in the comic strip Big Nate by Portland cartoonist Lincoln Peirce.
Home Stadium: Hadlock Field
The Sea Dogs play their home games at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field. The stadium is named after Edson Hadlock, a long-time baseball coach. It can hold 7,368 fans.
A special feature of Hadlock Field is the Maine Monster. This is a 37-foot tall wall in left field. It looks just like the famous Green Monster at Fenway Park in Boston. It even has a Coke bottle and Citgo sign on it!
There is also a picnic area along the right-field line. Groups can enjoy games there. In 2006, new seats were added above the right-field wall. These seats are like the Green Monster seats at Fenway Park. They let fans try to catch a home run ball. After the 2024 season, work began on a new locker room behind the left field stands.
Slugger the Sea Dog has been the team's mascot since May 6, 1994. He is a friendly sea dog who entertains the fans.
