Fredi Jesús González (born January 28, 1964) is an American baseball coach and manager. He was born in Holguín, Cuba. Most recently, he worked as the bench coach for the Baltimore Orioles. Fredi González managed two Major League Baseball (MLB) teams. He led the Florida Marlins from 2007 to 2010. After that, he managed the Atlanta Braves from 2011 to 2016. Before becoming a manager, he was a third base coach for the Braves for four seasons.
In 2011, Fredi González almost led the Braves to the playoffs. He then guided the Braves to the postseason in both 2012 and 2013.

Early Life and Playing Days
Fredi González grew up in Miami, Florida. He went to Southridge High School there. In 1982, the New York Yankees signed him. He was their 16th pick in the amateur draft. For six years, he played as a catcher in the Yankees' minor league system. He played up to the Double-A level.
Starting His Coaching Career
After playing, Fredi González became a coach. He spent two years as a graduate assistant coach. This was for the University of Tennessee Volunteers baseball team. In 1990, he began his managing career. He took over the Miami Miracle team.
In 1992, he joined the Florida Marlins organization. He was the first coach for the Marlins' new minor league team, the Erie Sailors. González coached for different teams within the Marlins' system. In 1997, he managed the Portland Sea Dogs. This team finished first in their division.
Becoming a Major League Coach and Manager
In 1999, Fredi González moved up to the Marlins' main team. He was their third base coach for two seasons. After leaving the Marlins, he joined the Braves' minor league team in 2002. He then became a coach for the Atlanta Braves in 2003.
On October 3, 2006, Fredi González was named the manager of the Florida Marlins. He was also chosen as a coach for the 2007 National League All-Star Team. After the 2008 season, he won the Sporting News Manager of the Year Award.
In 2010, Fredi González won more games than any other manager in Marlins history. He led the Marlins to winning seasons in 2008 and 2009. This was impressive because the team had one of the lowest budgets in baseball.
Managing the Atlanta Braves
On October 13, 2010, Fredi González became the new manager for the Atlanta Braves. He took over from the legendary Bobby Cox. In his first year, the Braves had a big lead for a playoff spot. However, they lost many games late in the season. They missed the playoffs on the very last day.
The next season, in 2012, the Braves finished with a good record. They earned a wild card spot in the playoffs. On October 5, 2012, Fredi González managed his first MLB playoff game. The Braves lost this game to the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2013, he earned his first playoff win. This was against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After a tough start to the 2016 season, Fredi González left his role as manager of the Braves.
Later Coaching Roles
On November 7, 2016, the Miami Marlins hired Fredi González again. He became their third base coach. He stayed with the Marlins until the end of the 2019 season.
In December 2019, it was announced that González would join the Baltimore Orioles. He served as a major league coach for them. He worked with the Orioles until the end of the 2024 season.
