David Fitzgerald Doyle (born December 1, 1929 – died February 26, 1997) was a talented American actor. He was best known for playing the friendly detective John Bosley in the popular 1970s TV show Charlie's Angels. David Doyle and actress Jaclyn Smith were the only two actors who appeared in every single episode of that show. Later in his career, many kids knew him as the voice of Grandpa Lou Pickles on the fun animated series Rugrats.

David Doyle's Early Life

David Doyle was born on December 1, 1929. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the United States. He finished high school at Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, in 1947.

David had a younger sister named Mary. She was also an actress, especially on stage. Their grandfather, John Fitzgerald, was a well-known person who built railroads and worked as a banker in Nebraska.

Becoming a Famous Actor

David Doyle's acting career lasted for many years, from 1959 until his death in 1997.

His most famous role was playing John Bosley in the TV series Charlie's Angels. This show was very popular from 1976 to 1981. Bosley was the helpful assistant to the mysterious Charlie, who sent the "Angels" on their missions. David Doyle was in all 110 episodes of the show.

After Charlie's Angels, David Doyle became known to a new generation of fans. He voiced the character of Grandpa Lou Pickles on the Nickelodeon cartoon show Rugrats. He played Grandpa Lou from 1991 until he passed away. After his death, another actor, Joe Alaskey, took over the role.

Besides TV, David Doyle also acted in many plays on stage in New York. He appeared in musicals like South Pacific. He also made guest appearances on several TV game shows, like Match Game.

David Doyle's Personal Life

David Doyle was married two times. His first wife was Rachael, and they got married in 1956. They had a daughter named Leah, who was born in 1961. Sadly, Rachael passed away in 1968.

The next year, David met Anne Nathan, who was a singer and dancer. They met while working on a play together. They fell in love and got married shortly after.

His Final Years

David Doyle passed away in Los Angeles, California, on February 26, 1997. He was 67 years old. He died from a heart attack. His body was cremated.
