David Fleming (died February 14, 1406) was an important Scottish nobleman. He was known as the Lord of Biggar, Lenzie, and Cumbernauld. He lived during a time when Scotland faced many political changes.

David Fleming's Life

David Fleming was the oldest son of Malcolm Fleming of Biggar. He was a trusted person in the Scottish kingdom.

In 1399, King Robert III of Scotland gave David many lands. These included places like Cambusbarron and Blairegis in Stirlingshire. He also received chapels in Kirkintilloch and lands in Dumbartonshire. David was also given lands in Aberdeenshire. He also got the important job of sheriff of Roxburgh. A sheriff was like a chief law officer for a region.

In 1406, King Robert III asked David to help his son, Prince James, travel safely. Prince James was going to sail to France from a place called Bass Rock. This was a dangerous journey because of conflicts with England.

However, the ship carrying Prince James, called the Maryenknyght, was captured by the English. Prince James and many other Scottish nobles were taken prisoner. This was a big problem for Scotland.

On February 14, 1406, David Fleming was returning from Bass Rock. He was attacked by forces of Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany. This happened near Longherdmanston, which is about six miles from Edinburgh. David Fleming was killed during this fight.
