David Flitwick (died 1296) was an important person from Flitwick, a town in Bedfordshire, England. He lived a long time ago, during the late 1200s. David Flitwick was both a politician and a soldier, especially during the wars between England and Scotland.

Who Was David Flitwick?

David Flitwick was an English nobleman who served his country in different ways. He was involved in the government and also fought in battles. His life was connected to the important events happening in England during the reign of King Edward I.

His Role in Parliament

In 1295, David Flitwick was chosen to be a representative for the area of Bedfordshire in the English Parliament. Parliament is like a big meeting where important people discuss laws and decisions for the country. Being a Member of Parliament (M.P.) meant he helped make choices for England. He was called to Parliament on November 27, 1295.

A Soldier's End

David Flitwick also served as a soldier. He was part of King Edward I's army during the invasion of Scotland. This was a big war where England tried to take control of Scotland. Sadly, David Flitwick died during this war in 1296.

After his death, King Edward I ordered that David Flitwick's lands be taken over by the Crown. This happened while the King was in a place called Roxburgh on June 3, 1296. An official investigation, called an Inquisition post mortem, was held to figure out what David Flitwick owned. This investigation found that he owned the manor (a large estate) of Flitwick and also had control over Skipton Castle.

His Family Tree

David Flitwick had a son, also named David Flitwick (who lived from 1266 to 1311). This younger David Flitwick married a woman named Lora Gumbaud. Later, their family line continued with another person named David Flitwick.
