David Michael Koechner (/ˈkɛknər/ KEK-nər; born August 24, 1962) is an American actor and comedian. He is famous for his funny roles. You might know him as Champ Kind from the Anchorman movies. He also played Todd Packer on the TV show The Office.
Koechner started his acting journey by studying improv comedy. He learned at ImprovOlympic in Chicago. Then, he joined another comedy group called Second City Northwest. In 1995, he moved to New York City. There, he was a cast member on Saturday Night Live for a year. He also appeared regularly on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. In 1997, Koechner moved to Los Angeles. He began working in many film and TV comedies. His first movie roles were small parts in Wag the Dog and Man on the Moon.

David Koechner was born on August 24, 1962. His hometown is Tipton, Missouri. His parents are Margaret Ann and Cecil Stephen Koechner. David has two brothers and three sisters. His father owned a business that made turkey coops. David grew up in a Catholic family. His family background includes German, English, and Irish roots.
He first studied Political Science in college. He went to Benedictine College and the University of Missouri. But he soon decided to follow his dream of being a comedian. He moved to Chicago to learn improvisational comedy. He studied with a famous teacher named Del Close at ImprovOlympic. Later, he joined The Second City comedy group. He finished his training there in 1994.
Comedy Career
Starting on TV
In 1995, David Koechner joined Saturday Night Live (SNL). He worked with his friends from Second City, Nancy Walls and Adam McKay. During his time on SNL, he also became friends with Will Ferrell. David played several funny characters on the show. One was Gerald "T-Bones" Tibbons. He also made fun of famous people like Mike Ditka and Charlie Sheen. After one season on SNL, he joined Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 1996.
The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show
David Koechner teamed up with his SNL friend David 'Gruber' Allen. They created a comedy act called The Naked Trucker Show. David played his character, Gerald "T-Bones" Tibbons. This character was based on a real person he knew. Their show mixed stand-up comedy with funny country songs. It became very popular in Hollywood clubs. They even opened for the band Tenacious D. In 2007, they got their own TV show. The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show aired on Comedy Central.
Big Movie Roles
In 2004, David got a big movie role. He played Champ Kind in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. This role made him very well-known. He was nominated for two MTV Movie Awards with his Anchorman co-stars. After Anchorman, he appeared in many other comedies.
