The Story Behind Bridge to Terabithia
The story of Bridge to Terabithia has a very personal connection for David. In August 1974, his best friend, eight-year-old Lisa Hill, sadly died after being struck by lightning. This real-life event deeply affected David and his family.
His mother, author Katherine Paterson, used this experience as the inspiration for her famous children's novel, Bridge to Terabithia. Years later, David produced the film version of the book, released in 2007. He also helped write the screenplay, bringing his personal connection to the story to the big screen.
His Journey in Film and Theater
David Paterson studied at The Catholic University of America (CUA), graduating in 1989 with a bachelor's degree. Before the Bridge to Terabithia film was released, he held a special showing for the CUA community in February 2007.
As a playwright, David has written many plays, with over a dozen published by Samuel French, Inc.. He even set a record by having three of his plays open in New York City theaters within the same month!
In 2013, David worked as a stunt double for actor Robin Williams in the movie The Angriest Man in Brooklyn.
