David Lord Paterson (born in 1966) is an American writer for movies, an actor, a stuntman, and a producer. He is well-known for his work on films based on books written by his mother, Katherine Paterson.

David Paterson's Early Life and Inspiration

When David was eight years old in August 1974, his best friend, Lisa Hill, was sadly killed by lightning. This very real and difficult experience became the inspiration for his mother, author Katherine Paterson, to write her famous children's novel, Bridge to Terabithia. Years later, David helped bring this story to the big screen. He produced the movie and also helped write the screenplay for the film adaptation, which came out in 2007.

Education and Creative Beginnings

David Paterson graduated from The Catholic University of America (CUA) in 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree there. Before the Bridge to Terabithia movie was released, David held a special early showing for people from his university. This event took place on February 1, 2007, at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland.

David Paterson as a Playwright

Besides writing for movies, David Paterson is also a successful playwright. He has published more than twelve plays with Samuel French, Inc.. He even holds a special record: he is the only playwright to have three of his plays open in New York City theaters within the same month.

Community Service and Local Leadership

In December 2012, David Paterson decided to run for Park District Commissioner in Manhasset. He ran a "write-in" campaign, which means people had to write his name on the ballot. He won against the person who was already in the job. Since then, he has been re-elected three more times, showing his dedication to his community.

Film Projects and Stunt Work

Stunt Work for Robin Williams

Bringing More Books to Life

In the fall of 2016, another feature film based on one of his mother's books was released. This movie was called The Great Gilly Hopkins. It opened in theaters across the United States and starred well-known actors like Kathy Bates, Bill Cobbs, and Sophie Nélisse.

Documentary Film Work
