He has taken photos for many famous companies like Penguin books, Polydor, EMI, Sony, Adobe, and Pfizer. His pictures have also appeared in big newspapers like The Guardian, The Independent and The Daily Telegraph. Penguin books even asked him to photograph the poet Linton Kwesi Johnson for a book cover. He has also taken pictures for music bands like The Divine Comedy and Guillemots.
In 2007, David was on a TV show called "Britain in Pictures" on BBC 4. They filmed him taking photos of old dance halls and other interesting buildings in Northern Ireland, where he grew up.
Books for Kids
In 2012, David Robinson created a children's book called The Mushroom Picker. For this book, he used a special photo process called 'luminogram'. This process makes "beautiful, detailed, and sometimes surreal" pictures. They make you feel like you're in magical worlds, full of fun and a little bit of mystery.
Penny Bun Helps Save the World (2018) is the follow-up to The Mushroom Picker. It uses the same cool visual style. This illustrated book is for all ages. It tells the story of a group of mushrooms trying to save their forest home. The main mushroom character is Penny Bun. Her forest is in danger from builders who want to destroy the delicate balance of nature there. David makes these pictures by putting things like mushrooms directly onto special photo paper. Then he shines different lights on them. Each time, it makes a unique and cool image, showing the light, color, and texture of the mushrooms.
His Photography Work
David's pictures have been shown in many places in the UK and other countries. His art was part of a big art show called Picturing Eden. This show traveled around the US and was started by George Eastman House. A book about this exhibition was also published.
In 2014, David worked with Gorilla Perfume / Lush. He created a luminogram to help promote one of their new perfumes called 'Mycelium'. He also appeared on The Food Programme on BBC Radio 4. He talked about his art and about Sporeboys, a Street food business he helped start in 2005.
