David Ryan Harris is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1967 or 1968. David moved to Atlanta when he was young. Today, he lives in Los Angeles, California. He has had a long and exciting career in music.

Starting with Follow for Now
David started his career as the lead singer for an Atlanta rock band called Follow for Now. This band showed off David's wide taste in music. Their songs had influences from Motown to thrash metal.
The band signed a record deal with Chrysalis Records. They worked with producer Brendan O'Brien. In 1991, they released their first album, Follow for Now. The band toured with famous groups like Pearl Jam and Faith No More. Follow for Now broke up in 1994.
Beginning a Solo Path
After Follow for Now, David Ryan Harris worked as a producer. He also played guitar for Dionne Farris. She was a singer from the hip-hop group Arrested Development. You can hear David's guitar playing on Dionne Farris's 1995 album, Wild Seed, Wild Flower.
David started his own solo career in 1997. He teamed up again with producer Brendan O'Brien. They signed with Columbia Records to make David's first solo album. Critics really liked the album. However, because David's music had so many different styles, it was hard to sell. He soon moved on to his next big project.
Forming Brand New Immortals
David Ryan Harris then formed a new band called Brand New Immortals. He joined with drummer Kenny Creswell and bassist Johnny Colt. Johnny Colt used to play for the Black Crowes.
The trio released a successful six-song EP. They were signed to Elektra Records by Lars Ulrich from Metallica. In 2001, they released an album called Tragic Show. The band felt that Elektra Records did not promote the album well. The group broke up in early 2002. After that, David went back to being a solo artist.
Performing and Collaborating (2002-Present)
David Ryan Harris continues to perform his own music. He also often plays with other famous artists. These include John Mayer, Dave Matthews, and Santana. From 2002 to 2009, David also performed on The Rock Boat music festival. He played alongside bands like Sister Hazel and Collective Soul.
In March 2009, David performed with Australian musician Guy Sebastian at SXSW in Austin, Texas. They also played with Steve Cropper in Philadelphia. David and Guy Sebastian have worked together for a long time.
- In 2004, Guy Sebastian recorded "Sweetest Berry," a song written by David Ryan Harris. It was on Guy's album Beautiful Life.
- In 2006, David co-wrote two songs with Guy for his album Closer to the Sun.
- In 2009, David helped write four songs for Guy's fifth album. This included the hit song "Like it Like That". David also played on and produced this song. It became a number one hit in Australia.
- In 2012, David co-wrote "Battle Scars" with Guy Sebastian. This song featured rapper Lupe Fiasco. It reached number one in Australia and was very popular in New Zealand and Norway. It also spent 20 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
- David toured Australia with Guy Sebastian on the "Get Along Tour" in 2013.
David Ryan Harris has also played guitar on the album Who I Am by Nick Jonas and the Administration. This album came out in 2010. In late 2011, David produced the first album for Australian singer-songwriter Amali Ward, called Back in Time. In late 2012, David joined Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora's solo band for a short tour. David also appeared in a TV special called Next at the Kennedy Center.
David Ryan Harris's Family Life
David Ryan Harris is married and has five sons: Miles, Life, River, Truman, and Hendrix. He also has a daughter named Tate Farris with singer Dionne Farris. Tate Farris is a rapper who performs as Baby Tate.
In September 2023, David and two of his children had a misunderstanding with airline officials. They were getting off a plane after a trip from Atlanta to Los Angeles. The officials had concerns, but the situation was quickly resolved. David later shared his experience online and received an apology from the airline, which he accepted. He explained that he understood the need for safety checks. He also suggested that minors should travel with identification to help prevent such misunderstandings in the future.
