History
David Syme moved to Sycamore in 1868. He became a very important person in the town. Mr. Syme was the president of the Sycamore National Bank.
He also served as the mayor of Sycamore. Plus, he was the president of the school board. David Syme often gave his time and money to the Sycamore Public Library. This library is another historic building in the district.
His house was built around 1880. It cost about $8,000 to build back then. A famous architect named George O. Garnsey designed the home. He was from Chicago.
The house was built in the beautiful Queen Anne style. Some special parts of the house are its two tall, round towers. These are called turrets. The house also has pretty stained glass windows.
