David Vaughn was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He went to Whites Creek High School in Tennessee. During his high school years, he was recognized as a top player. USA Today even named him to their All-USA First-Team.
After high school, David attended the University of Memphis. He played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers from 1991 to 1995.
