Sir David Alexander Warren (born 11 August 1952) is a retired British diplomat. A diplomat is a person who officially represents their country in another nation. For four years, he served as the Ambassador to Japan, which is the highest-ranking diplomat in that country.

The letters KCMG after his name show that he received a special honor from the Queen. It stands for Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George.

Early Life and Education

David Warren went to school at Homefield Preparatory School and later Epsom College. After that, he studied at Exeter College, Oxford.

To prepare for his future career, he joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1975. The FCO is the part of the British government that manages relationships with other countries. He spent two years studying the Japanese language, which became very important for his work.

A Career as a Diplomat

As a diplomat, Sir David had many important jobs. He helped manage the relationship between the EU and Japan on topics like trade and business.

His work took him to different parts of the world. From 1987 to 1990, he worked at the British High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya. He later returned to London to help lead the FCO's department that focused on countries in East Asia.

He also worked with the government's Office of Science and Technology. There, he helped the UK and Japan work together on science projects. Over the years, he became a senior manager at UK Trade and Investment, an organization that helps British companies do business around the world. He also became a director at the FCO, where he was in charge of Human Resources, helping to manage all the people who worked there.

Ambassador to Japan

From 2008 to 2012, Sir David held one of his most important roles: the British Ambassador to Japan. As ambassador, he was the main link between the governments of the UK and Japan. He lived in Tokyo and worked to keep the relationship between the two countries strong.

During his time as ambassador, he was recognized for his work and was given the honor of Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George in 2012.

Life After Diplomacy

Sir David retired from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2013. However, he has remained very active. He has used his experience to help lead several important organizations.
