David Grover Stacey Wingate Jr. (born December 15, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard and small forward. David spent 15 years playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for several different teams.

High School and College Basketball Journey
David Wingate played high school basketball at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland. His team, the Dunbar Poets, was very talented. He played alongside other future NBA stars like Muggsy Bogues and Reggie Lewis.
High School Success
The 1981–82 Dunbar Poets team had an amazing season, winning all 29 of their games. The next year, after David graduated, the team continued its winning streak, finishing 31–0. USA Today ranked them as the best high school team in the nation.
College Career at Georgetown
After high school, David decided to attend Georgetown University. He joined the Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team for the 1982–83 season. As a freshman, he was named to the Big East Conference all-rookie team, which means he was one of the best new players in the conference.
Winning a National Championship
During his second year, David mostly played as a shooting guard. He led his team in steals and scored about 11 points per game. That season, Georgetown won the 1984 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, becoming national champions!
Later College Years
In his junior year, Georgetown almost won another championship but lost to Villanova University in the final of the 1985 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. This was one of David's best years for defense. He had his highest totals for assists and steals. In his senior year, he averaged 16 points per game. When he finished college, David Wingate was the third-highest scorer in Georgetown Hoyas history.
Professional Basketball Career
David Wingate had a long 15-year career in the NBA. He played from 1986 until 2001.
Joining the NBA
He was chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 1986 NBA draft. He was the 44th player picked overall. Many people thought he should have been picked in the first round. David made his NBA debut on November 2, 1986. He played nine minutes in his first game against the Atlanta Hawks. He made his first start on March 10, 1987, against the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 22 points. He finished his first season playing in 77 games, averaging 8.8 points per game.
Playing for Different Teams
Over his career, David played for several NBA teams. These included the San Antonio Spurs, Washington Bullets, Charlotte Hornets, Seattle SuperSonics, and New York Knicks. He retired from playing professional basketball with the Seattle SuperSonics in 2001.
Personal Life
David Wingate has five children. Their names are Cynthia Alixandra, Brandi Allstin, Davion, Ashley, and Aminah.
