Davis Reef is a beautiful coral reef found in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. It's like an underwater city built by tiny animals called corals! This special reef is located southeast of Plantation Key.

Davis Reef is part of a "Sanctuary Preservation Area" (SPA). This means it's a very protected place where fishing and other activities are limited. This helps keep the reef healthy and safe for all the sea creatures that live there.

The southern part of Davis Reef is sometimes called "Davis Ledge." It's a slightly deeper area that's also full of amazing marine life.

Davis Reef is located between two other cool reefs: Crocker Reef and Conch Reef. Imagine them all as neighbors in the big ocean!

Protecting Davis Reef

Many groups are working together to keep Davis Reef healthy. These include the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI), the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, and the Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF). The Wildlife Foundation of Florida (WFF) and the family of Charlie Stroh also help.

What is Coral Outplanting?

These groups have started an important project called "coral outplanting" at Davis Reef. This means they are growing new corals in special nurseries. Once the corals are big enough, they are carefully placed back onto the reef. It's like planting trees in a forest, but underwater!

This "outplanting" helps damaged parts of the reef grow back. It makes the reef stronger and provides more homes for fish and other ocean animals. It's a great way to help protect our oceans for the future.
