In 1977, Silva helped form the group The Brides of Funkenstein. She was the only member who stayed with the group for its entire time together.
In 1978, The Brides released their first album, Funk Or Walk. Their song "Disco to Go" was a huge hit. It sold more than 500,000 copies and earned a Gold award, which is a special honor for a record that sells so well.
The group's next big success came in 1979 with the album Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy. This album was so popular that it won a Rhythm and Blues Award in 1981. Many years later, in 2001, Rolling Stone magazine called it one of the top 50 coolest albums ever made.
Later Work and Collaborations
After The Brides of Funkenstein, Silva's career continued to shine. In 1982, she started recording and touring with another popular group, The Gap Band.
She also worked with many other famous artists across different music styles. She recorded with rappers like Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg, and even with the legendary blues musician B.B. King.
In 2000, Silva released her first solo album in Europe, called All My Funky Friends. It was a big success and was praised as a true funk album.
