Dawn Silva is an American funk vocalist, which means she's a singer who specializes in funk music. Funk is a lively style of music that makes you want to dance!

Dawn began her music journey singing backup for the legendary band Sly and the Family Stone. Later, in 1977, she joined Parliament-Funkadelic, a very influential funk group. She was also a key member of a group called the Brides of Funkenstein. In fact, she was the only original member who stayed with the Brides throughout their whole career.

In 1978, Dawn and Lynn Mabry released a successful album called Funk Or Walk. The Brides of Funkenstein had a hit song called "Disco To Go." It sold over 500,000 copies, earning a Gold award! In 1979, with Sheila Horne and Jeanette McGruder, the Brides released another song, "Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy." Their album, also called Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy, even won a Rhythm and Blues Award in 1981. Rolling Stone magazine later called it one of the top 50 coolest albums ever!

Dawn Silva's Music Career

After her time with the Brides of Funkenstein, Dawn Silva continued making music. In 1982, she recorded and toured with The Gap Band, another popular funk and R&B group.

Later, in 1988, Dawn signed a solo record deal. This meant she was going to release music just by herself! While her first solo album wasn't released then, she kept working with many other artists.

Working with Other Artists

Dawn has worked with many famous musicians over the years. Her voice can be heard on recordings and tours with artists like Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Coolio, and even the legendary blues musician B.B. King. She also continued to work with Parliament Funkadelic.

In December 2000, Dawn released her first solo album in Europe. It was called All My Funky Friends. This album was very popular and was praised by Tower Records in 2001. They called it the only true funk album released in over two decades!
