Dazmon Jaroid Cameron (born January 15, 1997) is an American professional baseball player. He plays as an outfielder for the Baltimore Orioles in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before joining the Orioles, he played for the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics.

Daz Cameron went to Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia. The Houston Astros picked him in the 2015 MLB draft. In 2017, the Astros traded Cameron to the Tigers. He made his big league debut with them in 2020. His father, Mike Cameron, was also a famous All-Star outfielder.

Growing Up and Playing Amateur Baseball

Daz Cameron is the oldest of four children. His parents are JaBreka and Mike Cameron. His dad, Mike, played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 17 seasons. He played for eight different teams. Mike started teaching Daz how to play baseball when Daz was 13 years old.

Daz attended Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia. He played baseball for his school team there. As a freshman, he had a .392 batting average. This means he got a hit almost 4 out of every 10 times he tried.

In his second year, he got even better at hitting with power. He finished that season with a .434 batting average. He also hit seven home runs and had 28 runs batted in (RBIs). RBIs are runs scored because of a player's hit. He decided to go to Florida State University for college baseball. He planned to play for the Florida State Seminoles.

In the summer of 2014, Cameron joined the USA Baseball 18-and-under national team. They played against teams from other countries. He also played in the 2013 and 2014 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game. In 2015, his senior year, Cameron had a .455 batting average. He hit eight home runs and had 32 RBIs. He was named Georgia's Gatorade Player of the Year.

Daz Cameron's Professional Baseball Journey

Many people thought Cameron might be the very first player chosen in the 2015 MLB draft. However, he was picked a bit later. This was because of rumors about his high salary requests.

Playing for the Houston Astros

The Houston Astros picked Daz Cameron 37th overall. They had a lot of money to spend on new players. So, they had a good chance to sign him. Cameron signed with the Astros for a reported $4 million bonus.

After signing, Cameron started playing in the Rookie League with the GCL Astros. He then moved to the Greeneville Astros. There, he improved his hitting.

In 2016, Cameron began with the Quad Cities River Bandits. He struggled a bit there. He then moved to the Tri-City ValleyCats. In July, he broke his finger after being hit by a pitch. This ended his season early. Cameron went back to Quad Cities for the start of the 2017 season.

Time with the Detroit Tigers

On August 31, 2017, the Astros traded Cameron to the Detroit Tigers. Two other players, Franklin Pérez and Jake Rogers, were also part of the trade. The Tigers sent Cameron to the West Michigan Whitecaps. That year, he hit .271 with 14 home runs and 74 RBIs. He also stole 32 bases.

In 2018, Cameron started with the Lakeland Flying Tigers. He then moved up to the Erie SeaWolves. He played well there, hitting .285 with five home runs. The Tigers then promoted him to the Toledo Mud Hens. After the regular season, Cameron played in the Arizona Fall League. He returned to Toledo for the 2019 season.

Cameron was added to the Tigers' main 40-man roster after the 2019 season. On September 9, 2020, he was called up to the major leagues. He made his big league debut that same day. Two days later, he got his first major league hit. It was an RBI single against Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito. In 2020, Cameron played 17 games for the Tigers.

Cameron started the 2021 season with the Tigers on June 10. The next night, he hit his first major league home run. It was a two-run hit against Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks. This home run tied the game in the 9th inning. On June 23, Cameron stole a base against Yadier Molina. This made him and his father, Mike, the first father-son duo to steal bases against Molina. He was later sent back to Toledo in August.

Cameron started the 2022 season with Toledo. He played a few games for the Tigers in April and May. On June 10, 2022, Cameron was placed on the injured list. He only played in 64 games for the Tigers in 2022.

Joining the Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles claimed Cameron on November 9, 2022. This means they picked him up from a list of available players. He was later taken off the main 40-man roster. He played 110 games for the Triple–A Norfolk Tides. There, he hit .268 with 16 home runs and 67 RBIs. He also stole 23 bases. Cameron became a free agent after the season.

Playing for the Oakland Athletics
