Daz Cameron's Early Life and Baseball Start
Daz Cameron was born on January 15, 1997. He is the oldest of four children. His parents are JaBreka and Mike Cameron. His dad, Mike, played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 17 seasons. Mike started teaching Daz how to play baseball when Daz was 13 years old.
Daz went to Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia. He played baseball for his school team there. In his first year, he had a batting average of .392. This means he got a hit almost 4 out of every 10 times he tried.
He got even better in his second year. He hit .434 and had seven home runs. He also had 28 runs batted in (RBIs). An RBI means he helped a teammate score a run. Daz decided he would go to Florida State University for college. He planned to play college baseball for the Florida State Seminoles.
In the summer of 2014, Daz played for the USA Baseball 18-and-under national team. They played against teams from other countries. He also played in special games for top young players in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, his last year of high school, Daz hit .455. He had eight home runs and 32 RBIs. He was named Georgia's Gatorade Player of the Year. This award goes to the best high school athlete in each state.
Daz Cameron's Professional Baseball Journey
Many people thought Daz Cameron might be one of the very first players picked in the 2015 MLB draft. However, he was picked a bit later. This was because of rumors about how much money he wanted to sign his first contract.
Starting with the Houston Astros
The Houston Astros picked Daz as the 37th player overall in the 2015 draft. They had a lot of money to spend on new players. Daz signed with the Astros for about $4 million. This money is called a signing bonus.
After signing, Daz started playing in the Rookie League for the GCL Astros. He then moved to the Greeneville Astros. In 2016, he played for the Quad Cities River Bandits. He had a tough start there. Later, he moved to the Tri-City ValleyCats. His season ended early in July when he broke his finger. He was hit by a pitch. Daz returned to Quad Cities in 2017.
Playing for the Detroit Tigers
On August 31, 2017, the Astros traded Daz Cameron to the Detroit Tigers. Two other players, Franklin Pérez and Jake Rogers, also went to the Tigers. In return, the Astros got a famous pitcher named Justin Verlander.
Daz played for different Tigers minor league teams. He played for the West Michigan Whitecaps and the Lakeland Flying Tigers. In 2018, he moved up to the Erie SeaWolves. He played well there, hitting .285 with five home runs. Later that year, he was promoted to the Toledo Mud Hens, which is a Triple-A team. Triple-A is the highest level before the Major Leagues.
Daz played for the Toledo Mud Hens again in 2019. He hit 13 home runs that year. After the 2019 season, Daz was added to the Tigers' 40-man roster. This meant he was closer to playing in the Major Leagues.

In 2021, Daz hit his first Major League home run. It was a two-run hit that tied the game in the 9th inning. On June 23, 2021, Daz stole a base. This was special because his dad, Mike, had also stolen a base against the same catcher, Yadier Molina. They became the first father-son pair to do this. Daz played 64 games for the Tigers in 2022.
Time with the Baltimore Orioles
On November 9, 2022, the Baltimore Orioles claimed Daz Cameron. This means they picked him up after the Tigers let him go. He was later sent to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides. In 2023, Daz played 110 games for Norfolk. He hit 16 home runs and stole 23 bases. After the season, he became a free agent.
