What was Dazzeland like?
Dazzeland was known as Australia's Premier Indoor Theme Park. It was a unique place because it was completely inside a building! This meant you could enjoy rides and games no matter what the weather was like outside.
Awesome Rides and Attractions
The most exciting ride at Dazzeland was a roller coaster called "Jazz Junction". Its track zoomed overhead on the fifth level of the building. Imagine a roller coaster inside a shopping mall!
Besides the roller coaster, Dazzeland had lots of other cool things to do:
- Dodgem cars where you could bump into your friends.
- A classic carousel with spinning horses.
- A special Lego Expo for fans of building blocks.
- A giant playground for kids to explore.
- A musical fountain that danced to music.
- A fun train ride.
When did Dazzeland close?
Sadly, Dazzeland closed its doors on January 31, 1998. After it closed, people tried to use the upper levels for smaller shops. But this didn't bring enough visitors. So, the top floor stayed empty for many years.
What happened to the space after?
The "Jazz Junction" roller coaster was taken apart in 2003. This happened when the Myer Centre was being updated.
Later, a gym called Fernwood Fitness used part of the space. By 2009, the gym moved out. This left level 4 completely empty and closed off.
In 2013, the Myer Centre started another big upgrade. The escalators that went up to levels 4 and 5 were removed.
Dazzeland's brief return
In late 2015, there was exciting news! Dazzeland was announced to return in 2016. It was used as a special venue for the Adelaide Festival of Arts. This allowed a new generation to experience the unique space.
In early 2019, part of level 4 found a new purpose. It became the home for CDW Studios, a place for digital art and design.
