Denoon (also called DeNoon or De Noon) was a small village in Wisconsin. It was started in 1852 by a man named James DeNoon Reymert.

This village was unique because it sat right on the border between Waukesha and Racine counties. It was about 15 miles southeast of the city of Waukesha, near Lake Denoon. Denoon was also located on an important "plank road" that connected Milwaukee to Rochester. James Reymert helped make sure this road was built.

What Was Denoon?

Denoon is now known as a "ghost town." A ghost town is a place where people used to live and work, but then everyone left. Often, only old buildings or ruins are left behind.

Life in Early Denoon

In 1853, a book describing different places (called a gazetteer) said Denoon had about 100 people. It had homes, a store, and a hotel. There was also a Lutheran church and several shops where people made things.

Why Denoon Disappeared

Sadly, Denoon became empty because of a serious illness. In the 1850s, a sickness called cholera spread quickly through the area. Many people got sick, and many died. Because of this, the remaining people moved away, and Denoon became a ghost town.
