The Dead Diamond River is a river about 18.7 miles (30.1 km) long. It flows through northern New Hampshire in the United States. Its water eventually reaches the Atlantic Ocean. It travels through several other rivers first, like the Magalloway River, Androscoggin River, and Kennebec River.
About the Dead Diamond River
The Dead Diamond River starts in a place called Atkinson and Gilmanton Academy Grant, New Hampshire. It forms when two smaller rivers, the West Branch and the East Branch, join together.
The River's Journey
The Dead Diamond River flows south through areas where people cut down trees for wood, known as logging country. Along its way, another river called the Little Dead Diamond River joins it from the west. This happens near a spot called Hell Gate, which has some fast-moving water or rapids.
Right after Hell Gate, the Dead Diamond River enters a special area. This area is called the Dartmouth College Grant. The river then travels all the way through this college grant. Finally, it meets the Magalloway River very close to the border of Maine.
Other Rivers Joining In
One important river that joins the Dead Diamond River is the Swift Diamond River. It connects with the Dead Diamond River not far before the Dead Diamond reaches the Magalloway River. Other smaller streams and brooks also flow into the Dead Diamond River. These include Horne Brook, Washburn Brook, Merrill Brook, Tracy Brook, Lamb Valley Brook, and Loomis Valley Brook.
