The Dead River is a small river in Maine, a state in the United States. It is about 10.3-mile-long (16.6 km), which is roughly 16.6 kilometers. This river is a tributary, meaning it flows into a larger body of water. In this case, the Dead River flows into Sabattus Pond.

The water from the Dead River travels a long journey! After reaching Sabattus Pond, it flows out through the Sabattus River. From there, it joins the Androscoggin River, then the Kennebec River, and finally reaches the vast Atlantic Ocean.

Where Does the Dead River Flow?

The Dead River begins in the southern part of a town called Leeds. From there, it flows south.

Towns Along the River

As it travels south, the Dead River passes through a few different towns:

  • It goes through the northwest corner of Wales.
  • Then, it continues flowing through the town of Greene.
  • Finally, it reaches its end at the northern part of Sabattus Pond.

Another Dead River?

It can be a bit confusing, but there's actually another river also named "Dead River" nearby! This other river joins the Androscoggin River a short distance to the north, also in the northern part of Leeds.
