Early Life and Background
Not much is known about Dean Blunt's early life. He has shared that his family is from Hackney, a part of London.
Music Career Highlights
Dean Blunt made electronic music with Russian artist Inga Copeland (also known as Lolina). They formed the duo Hype Williams and worked together from 2007 to 2012. The group was a bit mysterious. They gave few interviews, and their exact members were not always clear. In 2016, it was announced that Blunt and Copeland were no longer part of Hype Williams.
Blunt started his solo music career in 2011. He released several albums, EPs, and singles. His early albums, The Narcissist II (2012), The Redeemer (2013), and Black Metal (2014), were well-received by music critics. His first album with the experimental group Babyfather, "BBF" Hosted by DJ Escrow, was named a top album of 2016 by music magazines.
In 2018, Blunt worked a lot on ASAP Rocky's album Testing. He helped produce and write songs like "Purity" and "Gunz N Butter." He also sang on "Calldrops." Before this, they had worked together on the Babyfather song "Benzo Amore." They have continued to collaborate on music since then.
In 2024, Blunt released the album Backstage Raver with his frequent music partner, Joanne Robertson. In 2025, he released lucre, an EP with Elias Rønnenfelt from the band Iceage and producer Vegyn.
Other Artistic Projects
Beyond music, Dean Blunt has directed music videos for artists like Actress and Panda Bear.
He has also created theater shows. These include The Narcissist in Berlin (2012), Lord Knows in Lausanne (2013), and I’m Just Passin Thru To Show Some Love (2013) and Urban (2014) in London. In 2017, he directed an opera called Inna, with music by Mica Levi.
Blunt has shown his art in exhibitions. Some of these include Brixton 28s and New Paintings at Space Studios, and W44VY at Arcadia Missa. He also published a book called Cîroc Boyz: Vol 1.
Personal Style and Approach
Dean Blunt is known for being playful and sometimes mysterious. For example, in 2015, he sent his bodyguard to accept an award for him at the NME Awards. At a concert in New York in 2016, guests were asked to use fake names to check in.
Blunt practices Transcendental Meditation, a type of meditation, and supports it.
