Decker Lake is a beautiful lake located in the northwestern part of British Columbia, Canada. It's part of the Bulkley River area. This lake is found just northwest of a town called Burns Lake.

If you travel along British Columbia Highway 16, you'll find the eastern side of Decker Lake. The small community of Decker Lake is also right there. A stream called Decker Creek flows into the lake from the southeast.

Why is it Called Decker Lake?

Decker Lake got its official name to honor a man named Stephen Decker. He was an important foreman for a very old and interesting project. This project was called the Russian–American Telegraph, also known as the Collins Overland Telegraph.

What was the Collins Overland Telegraph?

The Collins Overland Telegraph was a huge project from the 1860s. It was an attempt to build a telegraph line. This line would connect North America to Europe. It aimed to go through Alaska and Siberia. Stephen Decker played a key role in building parts of this ambitious line.
