Declan's Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Declan Galbraith was born on December 19, 1991, in Hoo St Werburgh, Kent, England. His family has roots in Scotland and Ireland. From a very young age, Declan loved music. He often went with his grandfather to local folk music events. His grandfather played the tin whistle and bodhrán, which are traditional Irish instruments. This early experience with Scottish and Irish music really shaped Declan's singing style. Sadly, his grandfather passed away in 1996 while performing on stage. Declan later dedicated his first album to him.
Declan's first big performance was at his grandmother's 60th birthday party. He sang a traditional song called "Tell Me Ma." His family encouraged him to keep singing. When he was eight years old, he started entering local talent shows. In just over a year, he won sixteen different awards! At one of these competitions, a famous songwriter named Barry Mason discovered him. This led to Declan signing a deal with EMI Records for three albums. It was a huge step for his career.

Declan Galbraith's first professional recording was a song called "Walking in the Air." It was released on a Christmas album with other famous artists like Westlife and Elton John. In 2002, when he was just ten years old, Declan released his first album, simply called Declan. This album featured a mix of old traditional songs like "Danny Boy" and "Amazing Grace." It also included covers of popular songs like "Angels" and "Imagine," plus new songs written just for him.
His first single, "Tell Me Why," became very well-known. It reached number 29 on the UK music charts. The song was special because it carried a message of peace. It also inspired a huge sing-along event. During the Young Voices tour in 2002, Declan sang in Belfast for 10,000 children. At the same time, he was connected by satellite to over 80,000 children across the UK. This amazing event set a Guinness World Record for the largest group sing-along ever!

After his early success, Declan took a break from public life. He wanted to focus on writing his own songs and learning about music production. He also explored other interests, like studying social and political science. He still performed sometimes, like for the 2012 London Olympics cultural program. During this event, he appeared on Chinese national television, reaching an estimated one billion viewers.
In 2017, Declan introduced his new artistic project called Child of Mind. Under this name, he started releasing his own music independently.
