Declan Galbraith was born on December 19, 1991. His birthplace was Hoo St Werburgh in Kent, England. His father is English, and his mother is Irish. He also has a younger sister named Bernadette.
His Early Life and Music
When Declan was a young boy, his grandfather often took him to music events. His grandfather played many musical instruments in a band. These events, called fleadhs, showed Declan a mix of Scottish and Irish music. This helped him discover his love for singing.
Declan first performed at the Rochester Dickens Festival. This event celebrates Charles Dickens. Declan dressed as a chimney sweep and began to sing. After this, he started joining local talent shows. Soon, he signed his first music contract in England.
Becoming a Young Star
Declan's first song was "Walking in the Air". It was part of a special Christmas album. This album also had songs by famous artists like Westlife and Elvis Presley. His first album, named Declan, came out in 2003. It featured traditional Irish songs and new music.
In December 2002, Declan sang live at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. About 10,000 children sang with him. Over 80,000 more children in schools across the UK joined in by radio and satellite. This huge event set a world record for the largest choir. A music executive noticed Declan and signed him to a new record label, Starwatch. Declan left Starwatch in 2010. In 2014, he shared that he was planning to make new music.
