A Look at Deering's History
Deering started out as a "lumber town" in the early 1900s. This means it was built around the business of cutting down trees and processing wood.
The community got its name from William Deering. He was the founder of the Deering Harvester Company. This company made farm equipment. In 1902, his company joined with others to form the big International Harvester Company.
The land where Deering was built first belonged to the Deering Harvester Company. Later, another company called the Wisconsin Lumber Company took over the land. A post office has been open in Deering since 1903.
