Deferiet is a small village located in Jefferson County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 245 people lived there. The village got its name from an early settler named Jenika de Ferriet.
Deferiet is found on the southwest side of the town of Wilna. It is east of Watertown and south of Fort Drum.

Where is Deferiet?
Deferiet is in the eastern part of Jefferson County. Its western edge runs along the Black River. This river separates Deferiet from the town of Champion.
Size of the Village
The village covers a total area of about 1.9 square kilometers (0.75 square miles). Most of this area, about 1.7 square kilometers (0.68 square miles), is land. The rest, about 0.2 square kilometers (0.08 square miles), is water.
Roads and Travel
Deferiet is located on New York State Route 3. This road goes west about 12 miles (19 km) to Watertown. Watertown is the main city in Jefferson County. Route 3 also goes southeast about 6 miles (10 km) to Carthage. Another road, Route 3A, meets NY-3 in Deferiet. Route 3A goes east to meet NY-3 again in the small community of Fargo.
