Deirdre Brennan (born 1934) is an Irish writer. She is a poet, playwright, and short story writer. What's cool is that she writes in two languages: both Irish and English!

About Deirdre Brennan
Deirdre Brennan was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1934. She grew up in County Tipperary. There, she went to schools in Clonmel and Thurles. Later, she studied English and Latin at University College Dublin. She also got a special diploma in education. In 1965, she moved to Carlow.
Her Life and Work
Deirdre taught at St Patrick's College in Carlow. She started writing in Irish after helping to create the Éigse Carlow Arts Festival in 1979. She has written many books, including twelve collections of poetry.
She won an Oireachtas Prize for her book Ag Mealladh Réalta. In 2023, she won the Farmgate Café National Poetry Award for Medea's Cauldron.
Deirdre worked with other writers like Máighréad Medbh and Nuala Ní Chonchúir. They created a poetry book called Divas! in 2003. Her poem At Home was put into a collection of women's poetry called Women's Work VII. Her poems are also in other important books. These include The Great Book of Ireland and The Field Day Anthology of Irish Writing, Volume 5. Her work is even used in school lessons in Ireland. It is also part of courses at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Deirdre has also written two collections of short stories. These are An Banana Bean Sí agus Scéalta Eile (2009) and Staying Thin for Daddy (2014). Her short stories have appeared in many newspapers and magazines. Some of her stories have even been on the radio. One of her works became a six-part drama series called Go to Blazes.
She was a leader for the Éigse festival when it first started. She also helped to create Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in Carlow. This group promotes traditional Irish music, dance, and language.
