Del Norte International Airport (which means "North International Airport" in Spanish) is an airport in General Escobedo, Nuevo León, Mexico. It works as a second airport for Monterrey, which is Mexico's second-largest city.

Airport History

Del Norte Airport was built by American Airlines around the 1940s. They wanted to start flights to Monterrey, but there wasn't an airport ready for them.

Over time, more and more planes started using the airport. Also, there were some challenges with how planes arrived and departed. Because of this, authorities decided to build another, bigger airport. This new airport is called General Mariano Escobedo International Airport.

If you visit Del Norte Airport today, you might still see some old "AA" letters. These letters from American Airlines are on the inside of some of the older airplane hangars.

What You'll Find Here

Del Norte Airport has many different parts. It has 123 hangars, which are mostly used for private planes. There is also a control tower to guide aircraft.

The airport has two runways. One runway is about 2,000 meters (6,560 feet) long. The other is about 1,500 meters (4,920 feet) long. There is also a main building called a terminal. This terminal has everything needed for commercial services. It even has a modern concourse with two jet bridges. These bridges let passengers walk directly onto the plane. There are also two more gates for boarding.

This airport is mainly used for training new pilots. It is also used for private flights. A special center is also located here. It is the Center of Investigation, Innovation in Aeronautic Engineering. This center is part of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León.

In 2007, Runway 20 got an important upgrade. This upgrade helps planes land safely, especially in bad weather.
