Dellis Cay is a beautiful private island in the Turks and Caicos Islands. It is about 560 acres in size. This makes it a medium-sized island in the Atlantic Ocean.
Where is Dellis Cay?
Dellis Cay is part of the Caicos Islands chain. It sits between Parrot Cay to the north and Pine Cay to the south. You can reach Dellis Cay by boat. It's only a 20-minute ride from Providenciales, which is a larger island nearby.
What's the Story Behind the Name?
The island is named after the Dellis family. They lived on the island in the 1950s. The family made their living by farming sponges. They also collected conch, which are large sea snails. Dellis Cay is also famous for the many beautiful shells found along its beaches.
A Planned Project
A big building project was once planned for Dellis Cay. It was called "The Residences at Mandarin Oriental Dellis Cay." This project was meant to open in 2010. However, the construction stopped in early 2010. The project was later completely cancelled in 2011 due to financial challenges.
