Delta Air Lines Flight 191 was a regular flight by Delta Air Lines. It flew from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Los Angeles, with a stop in Dallas. On August 2, 1985, at 6:05 PM (Dallas time), the plane crashed.

The aircraft was a Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. As it was getting ready to land at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), it flew into a very strong and sudden downdraft of air called a microburst.

The pilots could not control the plane in the extreme weather. The aircraft hit the ground more than a mile before the runway. It also hit a car and two water tanks. Sadly, 136 out of 152 passengers and 11 crew members on board died. The driver of the car was also killed.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigated the crash. They found that the accident happened because the flight crew decided to fly through a thunderstorm. Also, there were not enough rules or training for pilots to avoid or escape microbursts. Finally, pilots did not have enough information about dangerous wind shear conditions.
