Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is a very large airport in Texas. It is located between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth. People often call it DFW Airport for short. It is the busiest airport in all of Texas.
DFW Airport serves the big Dallas–Fort Worth area. It handles flights that go all over the world. You can find flights to 144 places in the United States and 47 places in other countries.
In 2010, DFW was one of the busiest airports on Earth. It was the fourth busiest for the number of planes taking off and landing. It was also the eighth busiest for the number of passengers traveling through it. DFW is a major hub for American Airlines, which means many of their flights start or end there.
The airport itself is located across several cities. These include Coppell, Euless, Grapevine, and Irving. The cities of Dallas and Fort Worth bought the land for the airport in 1966. Construction started a few years later in 1969.
