Denise Yvonne Dowse (born February 21, 1958 – died August 13, 2022) was a talented American actress and director. She was famous for playing important characters in many TV shows and movies. You might remember her as Mrs. Yvonne Teasley from the popular TV show Beverly Hills, 90210. She also played Judge Rebecca Damsen in The Guardian and Dr. Rhonda Pine in Insecure. Denise Dowse brought many different characters to life on screen.
Early Life and Education
Denise Yvonne Dowse was born on February 21, 1958, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her father was a naval officer. She went to Norfolk State University and earned a degree in arts.
Acting and Directing Career
Denise Dowse began her acting journey in 1989. She appeared in an episode of the TV series Almost There.
Over the years, she acted in many well-known TV shows. These included ALF, Full House, Murphy Brown, Seinfeld, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ER, Charmed, The Mentalist, Monk, and House.
One of her most famous roles was Vice-Principal Yvonne Teasley on Beverly Hills, 90210, where she appeared in many episodes from 1991 to 2000. She also played Judge Rebecca Damsen on The Guardian from 2001 to 2004. From 1993 to 1994, she was Vice Principal McBride in California Dreams.
Denise Dowse also lent her voice to cartoons. From 2000 to 2004, she was the voice of Officer Shirley in the Nickelodeon animated series Rocket Power.
She appeared in several movies too. Some of her film roles include Olivia Biggs in Bio-Dome (1996), Sky Marshal Meru in Starship Troopers (1997), and Principal Garrison in Coach Carter (2005). She also acted in Ray (2004) and Guess Who (2005). In 2020, she appeared in the thriller film Fatale.
Beyond acting, Denise Dowse also directed films. She directed the drama film Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story. This movie premiered in April 2022 at the 30th Pan African Film and Arts Festival in Los Angeles.
Later Life and Passing
In August 2022, Denise Dowse became very ill and fell into a coma due to meningitis. She sadly passed away on August 13, 2022, at the age of 64.
