The Dennis Chavez Federal Building is a tall office building and courthouse in Downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was finished in 1965. This building was made to hold the U.S. District Court. It also has offices for many different parts of the federal government.
Some of these offices include the U.S. Postal Service, which handles mail. It also housed the Veterans Administration, which helps military veterans. Other groups like the U.S. Public Health Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs also had offices here. The building was first called the U.S. Courthouse and Federal Office Building. In 1976, it was renamed to honor Dennis Chavez, a long-serving U.S. Senator.

The Dennis Chavez Federal Building is a large building in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It serves as a place for different parts of the United States government. It helps provide services to people in the area.
Building Design and Size
The Dennis Chavez Building was designed by a company from Albuquerque called Flatow, Moore, Bryan, and Fairburn. This company had also designed other tall buildings in the city. These included the Simms Building and the Bank of the West Tower.
The building is made with a strong steel frame. Its outside is covered with shiny granite. Inside, the main lobby on the ground floor uses beautiful New Mexico marble. The building stands about 197 feet (60 meters) tall. It has 13 floors above the ground. There is also a basement and an underground parking garage.
When it was built, the Dennis Chavez Building was the third-tallest building in New Mexico. Only the Bank of the West Tower and the New Mexico Bank & Trust Building were taller. Today, it is the seventh-tallest building in Albuquerque.
Its Purpose and Use
The main U.S. District Court moved out of the Dennis Chavez Building in 1998. They moved to a new building called the Pete V. Domenici United States Courthouse. However, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court still has its offices in the Dennis Chavez Building. This court helps people and businesses deal with financial problems.
