Dennis DuVal (born March 31, 1952), also known by his nickname "Sweet D", is a former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After his sports career, he had a long career in law enforcement.

College Basketball Career
Dennis DuVal first showed his basketball talent on the Syracuse Orange freshman team during the 1970–71 season. He was a star player, averaging an impressive 19.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
The next year, as a sophomore, he joined the main varsity team. He continued to play well, averaging 15.8 points and 4.8 rebounds each game.
During his junior and senior years, DuVal became the top scorer for Syracuse. He averaged 19.6 points per game as a junior and increased that to 20.6 points per game as a senior. Because of his outstanding performance in his final year, he was named to the NCAA AP All-American third-team, an honor given to the best college players in the country.
When he finished college, DuVal was the second-highest scorer in the history of Syracuse basketball, right behind the famous player David Bing.
Professional NBA Career
In the 1974 NBA draft, Dennis DuVal was chosen by the Washington Bullets. He was the 30th player picked overall. Another league, the ABA, also wanted him, and he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets.
DuVal played one season with the Washington Bullets. Before the next season started, the team released him. However, he got another chance to play in the NBA when the Atlanta Hawks signed him on January 31, 1976.
During his time in the NBA, DuVal played in 50 games.
Life After Basketball
After he stopped playing professional basketball, Dennis DuVal started a new career as a police officer in Syracuse, New York. He was very successful and moved up in the ranks. In 1990, he became the deputy police chief.
In 2001, DuVal was given the top job as the Syracuse police chief. He served in this role until he retired from the police force in 2004.
In 2000, Syracuse University honored him by selecting him for the Syracuse Men's Basketball All-Century Team, which recognized the best players in the team's history.
Currently, Dennis DuVal works as a top executive for Terradiol, a company that makes and sells medicines derived from plants.
