Playing for the Philadelphia Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers picked Dennis in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He was the 172nd player chosen overall. Before joining the Flyers, Dennis played for three years with Adler Mannheim in Germany's top league, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
In 2002, he signed with the Flyers. For the next two seasons, Dennis played for both the NHL team and their minor league team, the Philadelphia Phantoms. During the 2004–05 NHL season, there was a lockout, so Dennis played the whole season with the Phantoms. That year, his team won the Calder Cup, which is a championship trophy for the American Hockey League (AHL).
Time with the Phoenix Coyotes and Carolina Hurricanes
After the NHL lockout ended, Dennis was traded two seasons in a row. In January 2006, he moved to the Phoenix Coyotes. The next year, in January 2007, the Coyotes traded him to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 2010–11 season was a great one for Dennis. He scored 32 points during the regular season, which was his best ever. Then, in the playoffs, he helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup! He played incredibly well during those playoffs. Dennis was the second German-born player to win the Stanley Cup. His childhood hero, Uwe Krupp, was the first.
In December 2013, Dennis injured his knee during a game. This injury meant he couldn't play for the rest of that season. He needed surgery and spent many months recovering.
