The Dennis Trident 2 is a special kind of double-decker bus chassis. A chassis is like the frame and engine of a vehicle, before the body is put on. This chassis was designed to be a low-floor bus, which means it's easy for everyone to get on and off. It was first built in 1997 by a company called Dennis. Later, other companies like TransBus International and Alexander Dennis continued to make it.

What is the Dennis Trident 2?
The Dennis Trident 2 is a very popular two-axle chassis. This means it has two sets of wheels. It was made for double-decker buses, which are common in places like London. The main idea was to make buses easier for everyone to use. This includes people with strollers or in wheelchairs.
Different Bus Bodies
The Trident 2 chassis could be fitted with different bus bodies. These bodies are like the outer shell of the bus. Some popular body types included:
- Alexander ALX400
- Plaxton President
- East Lancs Lolyne and Myllennium Lolyne
The Enviro400 Chassis
In 2005, Alexander Dennis created a new version of the Trident 2 chassis. They called this the Enviro400 chassis. Even with the new name, it was still based on the Trident 2 design. This new chassis was used for the Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double-decker bus.
The Enviro400 chassis could also be used with other bus bodies. One example was the Darwen/Optare Olympus body. The first bus with this body was delivered to CT Plus in London in 2008.
Hybrid Buses and New Designs
In 2008, Alexander Dennis introduced a new and exciting version of the Trident 2. This was a hybrid-electric powered version, called the Enviro400H. Hybrid buses use both a regular engine and an electric motor. This helps them save fuel and produce less pollution. The Enviro400H used a special system from BAE Systems and a Cummins ISBe 4-cylinder engine.
Also in 2008, Alexander Dennis improved the Trident 2 design even more. They moved the engine and radiator to different spots in the bus. This new design could use different types of engines, like Cummins or MAN engines. It also used advanced gearboxes like Voith DIWA or ZF EcoLife.
In 2009, a special version of the Trident 2 (Enviro400) was made for Hong Kong. This version had a longer back part and could use a powerful Cummins ISLe engine.
