Denton is in the southern part of Davidson County. It is about 17 miles southeast of Lexington, which is the main city of the county.

A Look Back: Denton's History
Denton officially became a town on March 11, 1907. Before that, it was known as "Finch's Cross Road." When it became Denton, it got its first mayor, J.E. Varner, and a group of town leaders called commissioners.
Several historic buildings in Denton are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are important places that are protected because of their history. These include the Adderton - Badgett House, Chapel Hill Church Tabernacle, Mor-Val Hosiery Mill, and Mount Ebal Methodist Protestant Church.
The Southeast Old Threshers' Reunion
One of the biggest events in Denton is the Southeast Old Threshers' Reunion. It happens every year around the July 4th holiday at Denton FarmPark. This event is known as the largest antique tractor and engine show in the Southeast!
The reunion started small, with just a few farm equipment displays. Now, it's a huge five-day event that attracts over 50,000 visitors from many different states. You can see old farm machines, enjoy train and helicopter rides, listen to music, and watch fireworks. The main goal of the event is to teach people, especially kids, about the history of farming and how things used to be done.
Learning in Denton: Schools and Colleges
Denton has two elementary schools for younger students: Denton Elementary and Silver Valley Elementary. Silver Valley is a smaller school, while Denton Elementary is almost twice its size.
After elementary school, students go to South Davidson Middle School. This middle school is just outside the town limits. From there, students move on to South Davidson High School, which is connected to the middle school. South Davidson High is the smallest high school in Davidson County.
For students who want to continue their education after high school, the closest two-year college is Davidson County Community College. If they are looking for a four-year college, Pfeiffer University is about 19 miles south of Denton.
