Depth Charge (born 1941, died 1965) was a famous racehorse. He was a Thoroughbred, which is a special type of horse known for racing. His father was a horse named Bold Venture. Even though Depth Charge was a Thoroughbred, he became very important for breeding fast American Quarter Horses. After he passed away, he was honored by being added to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.

About Depth Charge's Family
Depth Charge was a purebred Thoroughbred horse. His father was a horse named Bold Venture. His mother was a mare named Quickly. Interestingly, Quickly was also the mother of another very famous horse, Count Fleet. Count Fleet won the U.S. Triple Crown races! Depth Charge was born one year after his famous half-brother, Count Fleet. John D. Hertz was the person who bred Depth Charge.

Depth Charge was a racehorse who competed on Thoroughbred tracks. He raced a total of 16 times. Out of those races, he won 5 times, came in second place 3 times, and finished third 2 times. In total, he earned $5,943.00 from his races. One of his best finishes was coming in third place in a race called the Myles Standish Stakes.
Becoming a Great Sire
After his racing career, Depth Charge became a sire. This means he was used for breeding other horses. He was very successful at this! He sired, or fathered, 174 Thoroughbred foals. Out of these, 121 became winners in their own races.
Depth Charge also sired 220 Quarter Horse foals. Many of these Quarter Horses became excellent racers. Some of his famous Quarter Horse offspring include Johnny Dial, Super Charge, Tiny Charger, Dividend, and Miss Queenie. He also fathered Thoroughbred stakes winners like Dark Charger, Free Stride, Queen Margie, and Baloma. His Quarter Horse foal who earned the most money was Three Deep, who won $35,258.00!
Honors and Legacy
Depth Charge passed away in 1965 in Shamrock, Texas. Years later, in 1991, he was honored for his great contributions to horse racing and breeding. He was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame, which is a very special award for horses who have made a big impact.
