One of his most famous voice roles was the English voice of SuperTed, the heroic teddy bear. The show was originally made in the Welsh language, and Griffiths brought the character to life for English-speaking audiences.

Why He Is Remembered
In 2011, the writer Charlie Brooker wrote about how important Derek Griffiths was to him as a child. Brooker said that Griffiths was one of the first black people he ever saw on television.
Brooker described him as a "brilliant TV presenter" who was warm, friendly, and talented. He felt that Griffiths could speak to young viewers without making them feel small. Brooker wrote that for him as a child, Griffiths's skin colour "absolutely didn't matter, yet at the same time it did – precisely because it didn't matter." This showed that people of all backgrounds could be stars on TV.
