Derek Miller (born October 29, 1974) is a talented Indigenous Canadian singer and songwriter. He has won two Juno Awards, which are like Canada's Grammy Awards for music. He even performed at the exciting Closing Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics alongside singers Eva Avila and Nikki Yanofsky.

Derek Miller's Musical Journey

Derek Miller was born in 1974 in the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation community in Ontario, Canada. He became very interested in music when he was a teenager. By the late 1990s, he was already touring with the famous musician Buffy Sainte-Marie.

Early Albums and Awards

In 2002, Derek Miller released his first album, called Music is the Medicine. It was released through Arbor Records, a music company in Winnipeg. The very next year, in 2003, he won a Juno Award for his song "Lovesick Blues" from that album. This award was in the category of Aboriginal Recording of the Year, celebrating music by Indigenous artists.

His second album, The Dirty Looks, came out in 2006. This album also brought him great success. In 2007, he received a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Rock Album for The Dirty Looks. Then, in 2008, the album earned him another Juno Award for Aboriginal Recording of the Year.

Olympic Performance and More Music

Derek Miller had a special moment in 2010 when he performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He shared the stage with Eva Avila and Nikki Yanofsky, entertaining a huge audience. Later that same year, he released his third album, Derek Miller with Double Trouble.

Acting and Hosting

Besides making music, Derek Miller has also appeared in movies and TV shows. He had supporting roles in films like Moccasin Flats: Redemption, Fire Song, and Point Traverse. He also acted in television series such as Hard Rock Medical and Resident Alien.

In 2015, he put together a special album called "Rumble: A Tribute to Native Music Icons." Since 2015, he has also been the host of a fun variety and sketch comedy show called Guilt Free Zone, which airs on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.
