Derrick Bernard Favors (born July 15, 1991) is an American professional basketball player. He last played for the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G League. Derrick played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for one year. After that, he was chosen by the New Jersey Nets as the third overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft.
After playing one season with the Nets, Derrick was traded to the Utah Jazz in 2011. He played for the Jazz for eight seasons. In 2019, he moved to the New Orleans Pelicans. He then returned to the Jazz for the 2020–2021 season. During his second time with the Utah Jazz, Derrick became one of the team's top scorers. He passed Mehmet Okur to become the 10th all-time leading scorer for the Jazz.

High School Basketball Star
Derrick Favors played high school basketball at South Atlanta High School. He was known as one of the best high school players in 2009. Experts like Scout.com and ESPNU ranked him very highly.
On March 14, 2009, he led his team, South Atlanta, to win the Georgia Class AAA state championship. In that championship game, he scored an amazing 38 points and grabbed 21 rebounds.
Derrick was also chosen for the 2009 McDonald's All-American Team. He helped his team win 113–110 and was named the MVP of the game. He scored 19 points and had 8 rebounds in that game. He also played in the 2009 Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden, where he scored 21 points and was named MVP for his team.
In his final high school year, he averaged 28.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 5.0 blocks per game. He holds school records for career points (2,341), rebounds (1,511), and blocked shots (741).
College Basketball Journey
Derrick decided to play for Georgia Tech in January 2009. He chose them over other big schools like Georgia and North Carolina State.
At Georgia Tech, Derrick played as both a power forward and a center. He helped lead the team to the ACC tournament finals. During this tournament, he averaged 17 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game.
Derrick was named the ACC Rookie of the Year. He was also chosen for the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Professional Basketball Career
New Jersey Nets (2010–2011)
On April 9, 2010, Derrick announced he would leave college early to join the 2010 NBA draft. The New Jersey Nets picked him third overall. He was only 19 years old when he played his first NBA game. This made him the youngest player ever to play for the Nets. In just his third game, he scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Utah Jazz (2011–2019)
On February 23, 2011, Derrick was traded to the Utah Jazz. He quickly showed his skills, scoring a season-high 17 points in April. In October 2013, he signed a four-year contract extension with the Jazz.
On November 1, 2014, Derrick scored a career-high 32 points against the Phoenix Suns. A year later, he set another career high with 7 blocks in a game. On December 5, 2015, he scored a new career-high of 35 points in an overtime win.
In March 2018, Derrick moved up to 10th place on Utah's all-time rebounding list. He passed Mehmet Okur with 3,602 rebounds. In April 2018, he played his 500th game with the Jazz. This made him the 12th player in team history to reach that milestone. In the playoffs that year, he had career bests of 20 points and 16 rebounds in a game.
Derrick re-signed with the Jazz in July 2018. In January 2019, he moved to fourth place on the team's all-time rebounding list. He passed Greg Ostertag. In March 2019, he scored 23 points and tied his career high with 18 rebounds.
New Orleans Pelicans (2019–2020)
On July 7, 2019, Derrick was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. He played his first game for them on October 22. On November 14, he had an amazing game with 20 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. This was his first time getting 20 points and 20 rebounds in one game. In January 2020, he scored a season-high 22 points.
Return to Utah (2020–2021)
On November 25, 2020, Derrick signed a new contract and returned to the Utah Jazz. He played his first game back on December 23, scoring 10 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. On January 1, 2021, he scored a season-high 14 points.
On April 8, Derrick moved into 10th place on the Jazz's all-time scoring list. He passed Mehmet Okur again, this time with 7,257 points. In the playoffs, he played well, helping the Jazz win their first series.
Oklahoma City Thunder (2021–2022)
On July 30, 2021, Derrick was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He made his debut for them on October 20. On November 4, he grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds. In February 2022, he scored a season-high 16 points. He missed the end of the season due to a back injury.
In September 2022, Derrick was traded to the Houston Rockets. However, he was waived by the Rockets in October. In January 2023, he signed a short contract with his hometown team, the Atlanta Hawks, but did not play.
Windy City Bulls (2023–2024)
On October 16, 2023, Derrick signed with the Chicago Bulls. He was waived two days later. On November 2, he joined the Windy City Bulls, where he last played.

Endorsements
Derrick Favors signed a shoe deal with Adidas. He did this just before the 2010 NBA Draft. Derrick has been loyal to Adidas since he was 15 years old. He wore their shoes when he played for his AAU team, the Atlanta Celtics.
