Derrick Bernard Favors (born July 15, 1991) is an American professional basketball player. He last played for the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G League. Derrick played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for one year. He was then chosen by the New Jersey Nets as the third overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft.
After playing one season with the Nets, Derrick was traded to the Utah Jazz in 2011. He played for the Jazz for eight seasons. In 2019, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. He then returned to the Jazz for the 2020–2021 season after playing a year with the Pelicans.
During his second time with the Utah Jazz, Derrick Favors became the team's 10th all-time leading scorer. He passed Mehmet Okur to reach this achievement.

Derrick Favors' High School Basketball Journey
Derrick Favors played high school basketball at South Atlanta High School. He was known as one of the best high school players in 2009. Scout.com ranked him as the number one player in the country. ESPNU100 ranked him second, and Rivals.com ranked him fourth.
On March 14, 2009, he led South Atlanta to win the Georgia Class AAA state championship. In that championship game against Westover High School, he scored 38 points and grabbed 21 rebounds. He was chosen for the 2009 McDonald's All-American Team. He helped the East team win 113–110 and was named the MVP of the game. He scored 19 points and had 8 rebounds in that game.
Derrick was also selected for the 2009 Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden. There, he scored a game-high 21 points. He was named MVP for his team. He finished his senior year averaging 28.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 assists per game. He holds the school's career records for points (2,341), rebounds (1,511), and blocked shots (741).
Derrick Favors' College Career
Derrick Favors decided to play for Georgia Tech in January 2009. He chose Georgia Tech over other schools like Georgia and North Carolina State.
He played both power forward and center for the Yellow Jackets. He was part of a strong group of players. In games against other teams in the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference), he averaged 11.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also shot 62.5% from the field. He helped his team reach the ACC tournament finals against Duke. During the tournament, he averaged 17 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game.
Derrick Favors was named the ACC Rookie of the Year. He was also selected for the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Derrick Favors' Professional Basketball Journey
Starting with the New Jersey Nets (2010–2011)
On April 9, 2010, Derrick Favors announced he would leave college early to enter the 2010 NBA draft. The New Jersey Nets picked him third overall. He was 19 years and 104 days old when he played his first NBA game. This made him the youngest player ever to play for the Nets. In only his third game, on October 31, 2010, he scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Miami.
Playing for the Utah Jazz (2011–2019)
On February 23, 2011, Derrick Favors was traded to the Utah Jazz. This trade also included Devin Harris and future draft picks. In return, the Nets received Deron Williams. On April 9, he scored a season-high 17 points against San Antonio.
On October 19, 2013, Favors signed a new four-year contract with the Jazz.
On November 1, 2014, he scored a career-high 32 points in a win against the Phoenix Suns. On November 12, 2015, he had 25 points, 12 rebounds, and a career-high 7 blocks in a game against the Miami Heat. On December 5, 2015, he scored a new career-high of 35 points in an overtime win against the Indiana Pacers.
On March 13, 2018, Derrick Favors moved into 10th place on Utah's all-time rebounding list. He passed Mehmet Okur with 3,602 rebounds. On April 11, 2018, he played in his 500th game with the Jazz. This made him the 12th player in the team's history to reach this milestone. In a playoff game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Favors had career playoff bests of 20 points and 16 rebounds.
On July 6, 2018, Favors signed again with the Jazz. On January 11, 2019, he had 13 rebounds in a win against the Los Angeles Lakers. This moved him to fourth place on the team's all-time rebounding list, passing Greg Ostertag. On March 2, 2019, he scored 23 points and tied his career best with 18 rebounds in a win against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Time with the New Orleans Pelicans (2019–2020)
On July 7, 2019, Derrick Favors was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. He played his first game for the Pelicans on October 22. He had six points, seven rebounds, and two assists. On November 14, Favors grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds. He also scored 20 points and had three assists in a win against the Los Angeles Clippers. This was his first game with 20 points and 20 rebounds. On January 18, 2020, he scored a season-high 22 points.
Returning to the Utah Jazz (2020–2021)
On November 25, 2020, Derrick Favors signed a new contract to return to the Utah Jazz. On December 23, he played his first game back with the Jazz. He scored 10 points, had 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. On January 1, 2021, Favors scored a season-high 14 points. On January 10, he grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds. On April 8, Favors moved into 10th place on the Jazz's all-time scoring list, passing Mehmet Okur with 7,257 points.
In the playoffs, the Jazz played against the Memphis Grizzlies. On May 23, Favors played in his first playoff game since 2019. He had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks. The Jazz won that series, but they were later eliminated by the Los Angeles Clippers.
Playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2021–2022)
On July 30, 2021, Derrick Favors was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played his first game for the Thunder on October 20. He had 4 points and 9 rebounds against his former team, the Utah Jazz. On November 4, Favors grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds. He also scored 10 points in a win against the Los Angeles Lakers. On February 11, 2022, he scored a season-high 16 points. On March 31, Favors was unable to play for the rest of the season due to a back injury.
On September 30, 2022, Favors was traded to the Houston Rockets. On October 17, the Rockets decided to release him. On January 11, 2023, Favors signed a short contract with his hometown team, the Atlanta Hawks, but he did not play in any games.
Time with the Windy City Bulls (2023–2024)
On October 16, 2023, Derrick Favors signed with the Chicago Bulls, but he was released two days later. On November 2, 2023, he joined the Windy City Bulls.

Endorsements and Partnerships
Derrick Favors signed a shoe deal with Adidas right before the 2010 NBA Draft. He has been a loyal supporter of Adidas since he was 15 years old. This was when he played for his AAU team, the Atlanta Celtics.
