The Story of Desert, Texas

The area that is now Desert was first settled around 1890. It got its name from a creek that flows just outside the community.

Early Services and Businesses

A post office was opened in Desert in 1893. It helped people send and receive mail. This post office stayed open for about 11 years, closing in 1904.

For much of its history, Desert was a small center for shopping and services. It had a general store where people could buy everyday items. There was also a church for the community to gather. A gristmill was also present, which was used to grind grain into flour.

Population Over Time
