Dharambeer Gokhool (born 25 October 1949) is a politician from Mauritius. He has been the President of Mauritius since December 6, 2024.

Early Life and Education
Dharam Gokhool was born on October 25, 1949, in a village called Plaine des Roches in Mauritius. He is part of the Hindu Indo-Mauritian community.
He went to Roches Noires Government School and then Mapou Government School. In 1975, he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Faculty of Management Studies – University of Delhi in India. An MBA is a special degree for people who want to learn how to manage businesses.
After his studies, he returned to Mauritius. He started working at the University of Mauritius. There, he held many important jobs, including lecturer, associate professor, and dean of a faculty.
Political Career
Gokhool started his journey in politics in 1976. In 1980, he joined a political group called the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM).
Early Elections
In 1982, he was elected to the National Assembly. This is like the parliament where laws are made. He won as part of an alliance between the MMM and the Mauritius Socialist Party (PSM). This alliance won a very big victory that year.
Later, the MMM and PSM groups separated. Gokhool stayed with the MMM. He ran for election again in 1983 but did not win his seat. In 1991, he was elected to the legislature once more. This time, he was part of an alliance between the MMM and the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM).
Changing Parties
During his time in the legislature, he decided to join a different political group, the Labour Party.
Important Roles
Gokhool also served as the mayor of the town Vacoas-Phoenix from 1991 to 1993. He worked as a parliamentary private secretary from 1993 to 1994. After joining the Labour Party, he became the party's administrative secretary in 2003. Then, he was the secretary general from 2004 to 2005.
During the time Navin Ramgoolam was Prime Minister, Gokhool was the Minister of Education from 2005 to 2008. After that, he became the Minister of Industry, Science and Research. He held this role from 2008 to 2010. In 2014, he was considered for the role of vice president, but he was not chosen.
Becoming President of Mauritius
In the 2024 elections, Dharam Gokhool was a candidate for President of Mauritius. All the members of the National Assembly voted for him, and he was chosen unanimously. He also received a special award called the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. In the same meeting, Robert Hungley was elected as his vice president.
Presidency
On March 11, 2025, the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, visited Mauritius. He went to the State House, which is the official home of the President. During his visit, he gave President Gokhool some special gifts. These included gangajal (holy water) from the 2025 Prayag Maha Kumbh Mela, makhana (a type of snack), and an OCI card. An OCI card is like a special visa for people of Indian origin living abroad.
President Gokhool also showed Prime Minister Modi the Ayurvedic garden at the State House. PM Navin Ramgoolam was also present at the State House during this visit.
