History of Diamond Springs
How Diamond Springs Got Its Name
Diamond Springs was settled in 1848. The town got its name from the very clear, sparkling springs found in the area. These springs looked like diamonds, which is how the name "Diamond Springs" came to be.
Gold Rush Days
This area was one of the richest places for finding gold during the California Gold Rush. One of the biggest gold nuggets ever found in El Dorado County, weighing 25 pounds, came from here!
Growth and Importance
The town was most active around 1851. Even after the Gold Rush, Diamond Springs remained important. It continued to grow through its production of lumber and lime, and also through farming.
Post Office History
A post office was first set up in Diamond Spring in 1853. The name of the post office was officially changed to Diamond Springs in 1950.
