Early Life and Education
Diana grew up in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. She is the youngest of three children. She learned to cook by watching her parents. They made delicious Peranakan and Cantonese dishes.
When she was 17, Diana moved to Kuala Lumpur. There, she finished her advanced school studies. Later, she moved to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. In 2010, she earned a degree in business from Deakin University. Before becoming a famous cook, she worked as an accountant.
MasterChef Australia Journey
In 2017, Diana was chosen to be one of the top 24 contestants on MasterChef Australia. This TV show is a cooking competition. She quickly showed off her talent.
Cooking Challenges
Diana was very good at using mystery box ingredients. Her dishes were chosen for tasting three times. She even won one of these challenges! She also did well in invention tests. These tests require contestants to create new dishes. Diana was in the top three twice and won one of them.
She was also a great team leader. Her team won the first team challenge of the season. Throughout the competition, her dishes were tasted more than anyone else's.
Winning the Competition
Diana Chan won MasterChef Australia on July 24, 2017. It was a very close finish! She won by just one point over Ben Ungermann. The prize for winning was $250,000.
Diana plans to use her prize money to open a restaurant. She wants to serve healthy meals. Her food will mix different flavors, especially Malaysian ones.
After MasterChef
Since winning, Diana has been very busy. She helps promote tourism in Malaysia. She also writes a cooking column for Delicious Magazine. You can often see her giving cooking demonstrations. She supports a group called Beyond Blue, which helps people with mental health.
Diana also hosted her own TV show. It was called Asia Unplated with Diana Chan. The show started in December 2019.
