Richard Felix Wallace (born July 22, 1882 – died July 19, 1925) was an American baseball player. He was a talented shortstop and a smart manager. He played in the Negro leagues for many years.

Dick Wallace played baseball from 1903 to 1924. He was part of several teams during his career. Some of his most famous teams were the Lincoln Giants and the St. Louis Giants. He was also the Captain of the St. Louis Giants in 1912. He managed baseball teams from 1909 to 1921.

Early Baseball Days

Dick Wallace was born in Owensboro, Kentucky. He started his baseball journey in 1903. His first team was the Paducah Nationals. He played for them until the end of the 1905 season.

In 1906 and 1907, Wallace played for the Cuban Giants. This team was based in New York City. He continued to gain experience as a player.

Playing for the Gophers and Giants

From 1908 to 1909, Wallace joined the St. Paul Colored Gophers. He played as a second baseman for this team. At the end of 1909, he moved to the Leland Giants. He continued to play second base there. During his time with the Leland Giants, he even got two hits against a famous pitcher, Ray Brown.

A well-known sportswriter and player, Jimmy Smith, recognized Wallace's talent. Smith chose Wallace for his "All American Team" in 1909. This was a big honor for a player.

In 1910, the Leland Giants team split up. Wallace then played for the Chicago Giants.

Player and Manager

Dick Wallace spent much of his career moving between two important teams. These were the Lincoln Giants and the St. Louis Giants. He was a player and a manager for these teams. This meant he played in games and also helped lead the team.

He finished his playing career with the Brooklyn Royal Giants. After that, he played for the Hilldale Daisies in 1919. Even after he stopped playing, he continued to manage. He managed the St. Louis Giants until the end of the 1921 season.

Later Life

Dick Wallace passed away on July 19, 1925. He was 42 years old when he died. He died in his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky.
