History of Dickeyville

Dickeyville wasn't planned out on a map like some towns. It grew naturally over time. The village got its name from a man named Charles Dickey. He opened a general store in the early 1840s, which was a very important place for people to buy supplies. Charles Dickey also became the first postmaster in 1849, when the local post office was set up. At first, the name was spelled "Dickeysville."
