Playing for Spain
Diego de Paz played wheelchair basketball for the Spanish national team in the 1996 Summer Paralympics. These are huge international sports events for athletes with disabilities.
He was chosen again to play for Spain in the 2011 European Championships. In 2012, he was picked for the team that would go to the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. This was a big deal because it was the first time the Spanish national team had qualified for the Paralympics in 16 years!
In London, his team finished fifth overall. They won a game against Germany with a score of 67–48 to secure that fifth place. Diego played in important games against teams like South Africa and Germany. He even scored 11 points in the game against the United States.
During his time in the Paralympics, Diego de Paz became known for his three-point shots. He ranks ninth in history for the total number of three-point shots made at the Games. After the London Games, he decided to stop playing for the national team. He was very emotional after his last game.
