Dieter Müller (born Dieter Kaster on April 1, 1954) is a famous German former professional football player. He was a striker, known for scoring many goals. He had his best years playing for 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league, in the late 1970s.

Dieter Müller scored an amazing 177 goals in 303 games in the German league. He even set a record by scoring six goals in just one game in August 1977! He also played 12 times for the West Germany national team between 1976 and 1978, scoring nine goals.

Dieter Müller's Football Career

Dieter Müller played in the UEFA Euro 1976 final. He even scored a goal in that big game! However, West Germany lost the match to Czechoslovakia after a penalty shootout. He also played for the national team in the 1978 FIFA World Cup. West Germany was the champion from the last World Cup, but they didn't make it to the final this time.

Record-Breaking Goals at 1. FC Köln

While playing for 1. FC Köln, Dieter Müller set an incredible record. He scored the most goals ever by one player in a single Bundesliga match! On August 17, 1977, he scored six goals in Köln's 7–2 win against Werder Bremen. He scored in the 12th, 23rd, 32nd, 52nd, 73rd, and 85th minutes! About 19,000 fans watched this amazing game at Köln's Müngersdorfer Stadion. Sadly, there are no videos of his goals because TV cameramen were on strike that day.

Dieter Müller was the top scorer in the Bundesliga for two seasons in a row. He scored 34 goals in 34 games in the 1976–77 season. The next season, 1977–78, he scored 24 goals in 33 games.

Playing Abroad and Return to Germany

After leaving Köln, Dieter Müller played football for several years in France and Switzerland. Later, he returned to West Germany to continue his career.

Family Football Connection

Dieter Müller's father, Heinz Kaster, was also a football player. He played as a defender for FC St. Pauli and Kickers Offenbach in the early 1950s. Dieter was already a talented schoolboy player when his stepfather adopted him, and his last name changed to Müller.

Dieter Müller's Personal Life

Dieter Müller has faced some difficult times in his personal life. In 1997, his son Alexander passed away at the age of 16. In 2012, Dieter Müller had a serious health issue and needed medical care.
