The UEFA Euro 1976 was a big football tournament for European national teams. It was the 5th time this championship was held. The official name was the 1976 UEFA European Football Championship. It took place in Yugoslavia from June 16 to June 20.

All European football teams could try to qualify for the tournament. Only four teams made it to the final stage. Czechoslovakia was the defending champion from the previous tournament. They won again in 1976, beating West Germany in an exciting final match.

The Semi-Finals

The tournament started with two semi-final matches.

In the first semi-final, Czechoslovakia played against the Netherlands. Czechoslovakia won this match 3-1 after extra time.
In the second semi-final, West Germany faced the host team, Yugoslavia. West Germany won a high-scoring game 4-2, also after extra time.

Third Place Match

The teams that lost in the semi-finals played each other for third place.
