Ulrich "Uli" Hoeneß (born 5 January 1952) is a famous German football executive and former player. He played as a forward for the West Germany national team. Uli Hoeneß won a World Cup and a European Championship with his country.
Most of his playing career was with Bayern Munich. There, he helped the team win three Bundesliga titles and three European Cups. After retiring as a player, Hoeneß became a successful manager and later the president of Bayern Munich. He helped the club grow a lot during his time in charge.

Youth Football Journey
Hoeneß began playing football at a young age. He played for local youth teams like VfB Ulm. Later, he joined TSG Ulm 1846. His talent as a forward quickly became clear.
Club Career Highlights
In 1970, Uli Hoeneß joined Bayern Munich. He was a left-sided forward. He quickly made a big impact on the team. In his first season, he scored six goals. Bayern Munich finished second in the league. They also won the DFB-Pokal, which is Germany's domestic cup.

International Football Career
Uli Hoeneß played 35 times for West Germany. His first game was in March 1972. He scored a goal in a 2–0 win against Hungary.
Winning the World Cup and Euros
Hoeneß was a key player for West Germany. He was one of six Bayern players in the national squad. He helped West Germany win the UEFA Euro 1972. Two years later, they won the 1974 FIFA World Cup. In the 1974 World Cup final against Holland, he made a foul early on. This led to a penalty goal for Holland. But West Germany fought back and won 2–1.
He also played in UEFA Euro 1976. In that tournament, he missed a penalty kick in the final shootout. West Germany lost to Czechoslovakia.
Olympic Games Appearance
Before becoming a professional, Hoeneß kept his amateur status. This allowed him to play in the 1972 Summer Olympics. He played alongside future Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. West Germany did not reach the semifinals. They lost 3–2 to East Germany. Hoeneß scored his only goal of the tournament in that match. This was also the first time West Germany and East Germany played each other.
Bayern Munich Management Role
Right after he stopped playing in May 1979, Hoeneß got a new job. He became the commercial and general manager of Bayern Munich. On 27 November 2009, he was elected president of the club. He had been a general manager for 30 years.
Growing the Club's Success
During his time as a manager and president, Bayern Munich grew a lot. The club's income increased significantly. They also became much more famous. Between 2002 and 2005, Bayern built a new stadium. On 15 November 2019, Hoeneß retired as Bayern's president. Herbert Hainer took over his role. Hoeneß spent 49 years at Bayern. He was a player and then a leader for the club.
Personal Life and Family
Uli Hoeneß is married to Susanne. They have two children, Sabine and Florian. They have been married for over 40 years. Uli's father was a master butcher. Uli now co-owns a company called HoWe Wurstwaren KG. This company makes bratwurst sausages in Nuremberg. Uli's younger brother, Dieter, was also a very successful football player. He played in the Bundesliga and for West Germany.
Surviving a Plane Crash
On 17 February 1982, Hoeneß was in a plane crash. He was the only person who survived. Three other people died. He was on his way to a friendly match for the West Germany national team. He was sleeping in the back of the plane. He only had minor injuries.
Helping Other Football Clubs
Hoeneß has also helped other German football teams. He has given them money. Sometimes he organized special benefit games. He helped clubs like FC St. Pauli, Hertha BSC, and Borussia Dortmund.
